John 18:10-11
Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.) Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?”
Day 18 - Clash of wills
Peter tried to protect Jesus, pulled out the sword and wounded the high priest's servant. Many of us would rightly act like Peter to protect loved ones. But Jesus commanded Peter to put away his sword and allow God's plan to unfold.
At times it's tempting to take matters into our own hands, to force the issue. How often have we been involved in underhand dealings, lied to get out of trouble or cheated at school to pass an exam.
If Peter had his way, Jesus would not have gone to the cross and God's plan of redemption would not have played out. (That was God's will and God's way)
Think on It:
Is there an area of my life where I’ve taken matters into my own hands and restricted God’s influence?
Areas where you attempt to restrict his influence will just cause you grief. God knows what is best for us. Let us turn every area of our life over to him.
