Unstoppable Transformation

The Word of God has Power to Set us free and Transform us.

I was watching a sermon some time ago and I heard the speaker say that if it wasn’t for the Holy Spirit holding him together, he would be in a million little pieces and I can wholeheartedly confirm that this statement is true for me as well. When God rescued me some years ago, I was far beyond the point of fixing by any human / natural means. And this is not an exaggeration at all.

If an expert examined every part of my life in the hope of building a natural profile for me, they would certainly expect that I suffered from some sort of mental or emotional constraint in the least. But I am here to tell you, friend, that it does not matter what your past looks like, or even what your present is like. God is the only true profiler, and he is able to take a mess and turn it into a masterpiece. If you would just trust him with your life.

Our Identity

Who are You?

Ephesians 2:10 says that “we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” God never intended for any of his children to live a life of bondage in any way whatsoever. Think about the word “masterpiece” for a second. A masterpiece is the artefact that is the finest and best of all. It is the piece of art that has been worked on the hardest, longest, and with the most effort. It is the piece of art that the artist treasures the most. That has the highest price. You were bought at the highest price in existence – the blood of Jesus! That is how God created you. His masterpiece. Do you believe it?

You might be thinking. What on earth does this have to do with God’s word? Stay with me for a moment, I’m going somewhere with this.

You see, the devil’s greatest mission is to rob God’s children of their true identity in Christ. If you do not know your true identity in Christ, you will not have the faith you need to fulfil your heavenly calling. One of his main targets is the mind of the believer. Proverbs 23:7 says that “As someone thinks within himself, so he is.” If the devil can influence your thought life, he can influence your physical, emotional and spiritual life too. He can ultimately win you over as an agent of Satan, instead of an agent of Christ which is what you are called to be.

God’s heart is to bring us to a place of complete restoration and redemption in our relationship with him. Through the Salvation that Christ the son of God has won for us, we can now experience His Spirit working in us and through us to be in communion with God our heavenly Father. We can live according to our true God given identity!

In case you thought that you were skipped in the commission process, think again! 2 Timothy 1:9 says, “who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began”. You have been created with a purpose, for a purpose that is much greater than your circumstances. Keep going.

The battle for our minds

A few years ago, I struggled with severe mental and emotional torment. Because of events that occurred in my past, I thought that this was understandable and for a moment, I expected to live a life that was barricaded in coping mechanisms. I was literally held captive in my mind, and my life was engulfed in constant fear. My thoughts were so intrusive to the point that I was afraid of having relationships or being touched by others in any way or form. I was in constant fear that things would go wrong and I wouldn’t be able to cope. I would break down at the slightest sign of negativity, and often had panic attacks when problems arose.

It was here where God began to reveal to me that I was in need of a complete renewal of the mind and this was only possible through digesting his word (Do not copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.- Romans 12:2) . The devil had ransacked my mind and built a mansion for himself with strongholds, and God was calling me to partner with him in claiming it back through reading, hearing, declaring and obeying his word.

Renewal of the mind

The word of God rebuilds your thought patterns, It renews your mind.

So, I began the journey to renew my mind. Every time I thought a negative, fearful or ungodly thought, I would replace it with a scripture to counter that lie. I gathered scriptures for all circumstances, emotions, and events so that I was prepared for battle when it arose. My room looked like a sticky note extravaganza for a while. My landlord would have probably gotten a heart attack if he saw my walls, but I had it with the devil and his lies.

As Paul says in Ephesians 6:12, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” It was warfare time! I put on the Armour of God, and I took up the sword of the spirit which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17), and then I held every thought captive and made it obedient to Christ (We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ- 2 Corinthians 10:5).

And then, as it says in Revelation 12:11, I overcame Satan by the blood of the lamb and the word of my testimony. I declared God’s word over my life. Friend, the word of God is truly alive and sharper than a double-edged sword. If you need breakthrough, find a scripture relating to your issue and begin to declare it over your life. Jesus shows us the mighty power of God’s word in the wilderness when Satan tries to tempt him. Jesus uses scripture to counter his attacks, and the devil had no choice but to leave him alone. The devil has no power against the word of God!

Lastly, you must know that God is most concerned about the condition of your heart. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” You cannot have the wrong things in your heart, and live right. How do you have the right things in your heart? Well, David gives us the answer in Psalm 119:11 when he says, “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

God wants his word to reach the deepest corners of your heart. That is where transformation happens and that is where we become unstoppable!

Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father, thank you that you have created me to be your masterpiece and that you have called me for a holy purpose. I ask that you will reveal any thought patterns to me that need to be renewed with your word. Please give me a hunger to digest your word, and give me a boldness to declare it over my circumstances. Thank you, that the victory has already been won at Calvary and that is why I am fighting from a place of victory, and not for the victory. Because of this confidence, I take up arms and choose to overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of my testimony. In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
